The Spearfishing World Championship started on July 5th, in Vigo, Spain. If you are waiting for results they will not come quite yet. The first day consisted of inauguration, team meetings and dinner. The second day July 6th consisted of captains meeting and other social functions. The actual diving will take place local time 10 am on July 7th lasting until 3 pm and again on Sunday the 8th; 10 am through 3 pm. US spearfishing team diver Erick Salado from Miami, FL reported on the current conditions in Vigo, Spain today.
He stated that the sea is moving fast and brutal with conditions going from good too bad in a matter of minutes without warning. The winds change from the southeast to the northeast and with that the visibility and the temperature. At times the visibility is 20-30 feet but without notice it can change to 2-3 feet. It is very different from South Florida and the shooting range and guns used are obviously shorter and smaller.
